On Thursday at about 3pm (just 2 hours after Charles and I finished spreading cover crop seed for the upper portion beyond the vineyard), a fire broke out. The local volunteer fire department and forest service promptly extinguished it. It was a brush fire. The rumor is that one of my neighbors was burning trash and it got out of control. I am conducting an investigation with authorities on the cause of the fire. Fortunately, no one was injured. The vineyard was unaffected. Here are some pictures of the burned area. It affected about 3 acres. We plan to add more covers crops (e.g., cow peas and Sudan grass) and work with Mother Nature to heal the area.
